Book Discussion

Authors who have read or have been influenced by Dorothy Dunnett

This is one of those page that I've been meaning to compile for many years but always seemed to fall off the todo list. But recent questions on the Bluesky social media platform prompted me to return to it.

While some of the writers mentioned here are from memory or from research, I must acknowledge the kind assistance some 20-odd years ago of Elaine Thompson, who when I asked for help for a talk I was giving, generously made available her own compilation (and her superb memory) to allow me to build a suitable list. A substantial part of this list is due to her help.

The authors are listed in alphabetical order - to avoid any hint of favouritism or suggestions of an order of merit - and as time allows I will try to add genres to their entries for those who might be interested to read some of their work. Some are Historical Fiction but others are SF, Fantasy, Romance and doubtless a few others. If I can find websites for them I'll add links to those too.

If you know of any others - particularly if you have a firm source for them being admirers of Dorothy - then I'd be happy to hear from you via the contact page.
