The Blog is back!
Following the double disk failure on the server earlier in 2025, the blog was down for a few months, but now I've finally been able to restore it from a mixture of backups and the Wayback machine and my own original drafts. The only thing missing might be a few comments but I think I've got most of them.
The Blog home page is back at Bill's Dunnett Blog if you want to go straight there. It's had a facelift as well and should now be easier to read with a larger font.
However there are a couple of posts which I've had here on the main part of the site which include comments that I can't replace into the blog posts, and in order to maintain those comments I've left those posts here and have built stub entries on the blog pointing to them. Another has images which are visible in the main page but not in the blog so it stays here as well. The three affected are:
What do Lymond and Marthe look like?
Taken on a Journey to Blackfriars
The new ones which were only published up till now on the main site while the blog was down are now moved to the blog to allow people to comment on them:
Hi Mum, I'm home! - Philippa and Kate reunited
Creating memorable minor charactersÂ
Close Encounters - Lymond and Christian
If you're looking for something in particular from the most popular posts and don't want to trawl through the blog looking for them then the following links may be of help.
Jerott Blyth – dashing hero or dumb idealist
Marthe - Tragic Pawn or a Lost Soul Redeemed
My Fife Local Heroes Talk on Dorothy Dunnett - 2010
“As a maiden lady, you would wear anyone down...”
Revisiting an old theory on the character, thinking, and development of Nicholas
There is one other that was never on the blog in this form, being a series of extracts from the old newsletters discussing my own very first reads, and remains on the main site:
Confessions of a Dunnett Reader
And finally the old blog post with the embedded video is remaining on the main site as I had to add a direct link to the archive.org file after it stopped loading the embedded version.
Dorothy's Video Interview for STV with Jenny Brown
